January 24, 1752 (Vedredy) Turns to Hail last night & proves a very severe storm this day–plenty of Hail. The snow is not as yet very deep. Were it not for the crust, ‘twould be charming sledding all about the woods…We hear that the cold has prevailed in that degree about Boston that the Harbor froze over as far as the Light House–So that it’s good going on ice…Slays & whirries (boats) pass instead of ships & boats. ‘Twas light snowing all last week in this Month–It ends very cold and snowy evening. The old snow is so stiff as almost heave a man. Being some depth, makes bad travelling in the woods.
